FACIAL MASSAGE : ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW TO BOOST YOUR SKIN LOOK AND FEEL

Manual massage techniques are a key tool in cosmetic treatments because, among other benefits, they help maintain the internal support structures in the face and neck. Of course, it is important that they are carried out by an expert professional, who masters the execution of each manoeuvre and knows how to make the most of it.

What is facial massage?

Facial massage is a beauty treatment that includes a set of techniques based on manual manipulations on the skin. Usually, small movements are made on the face, applying different degrees of intensity, superficial or deep. It also includes friction, pressure, pinching and kneading. All this, taking into account the benefits you want to get. For example, it can be for relaxation purposes, sedatives, to activate circulation, tone muscles, etc.

This type of massage achieves amazing effects and in a completely natural way. It provides a pleasant sensation of relaxation and comfort as it relaxes the muscles of the face, through gentle and constant movements. And, in addition, it also calms, helps to take care of the appearance of the face and reduces the tensions of the day to day.

Its purpose is to preserve the elasticity and firmness of the skin and muscle tissues for as long as possible. In this way, the face can remain with a youthful and beautiful appearance. Therefore, we can say that it has not only aesthetic but also therapeutic purposes.

What are the benefits of facial massage?

Facial massage brings many great benefits that contribute to the well-being of people's skin. In addition, depending on the purpose of the therapy, this massage can be combined with other beauty treatments. For example, the application of a specific mask, a cleansing of the skin or as a preparation for makeup.

The following are the most common:

  • It helps to relax the body and mind, so it is indicated to treat cases of stress and anxiety. It is also a way to improve your mood.

  • Helps improve facial muscle tone.

  • It activates blood circulation and oxygenation of skin tissues. That is, it promotes the transport of oxygen in the skin cells and stimulates the production of collagen. This allows you to get younger, wrinkle-free and brighter skin.

  • Removes bags in the eyes, dark circles and expression lines.

  • It prevents and relieves the accumulated tensions of daily life that are reflected in facial expression.

  • It improves lymphatic circulation and therefore removes toxins responsible for skin imperfections.

  • Improves facial contour.

  • Increases red blood cell production.

  • It accelerates the regeneration of the skin and restores its elasticity, firmness, smoothness and healthy appearance, since, like any other part of the body, the face can also suffer from sagging. This helps maintain a fresh, bright and rejuvenated face.

FACIAL MASSAGE TECHNIQUES

There are several manual massage techniques for the facial area:

  • Classic Facial Massage

  • Facial Lymphatic Drainage

  • Digitopuncture or Shiatsu

  • Kobido massage

Classic Facial Massage

This type of massage is the most used and is the one that is usually taught in academies and beauty schools, so it is the one that most professionals practice. It includes manoeuvres such as soft and deep rubbing, tapping, pinching, kneading.

It is indicated for skin with aging or photoaging. These skins need a stimulus in the dermis to promote new collagen that fulfils the important supporting function.

Usually this type of massage is performed with different active ingredients, such as vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, AMD, etc.

Facial Lymphatic Drainage

Lymph is a fluid present in our body that originates in the blood. It consists of water, salts and proteins, circulates through the lymphatic system, eliminating toxins and other waste.

Currently the Vodder method is the academically recognized method with a secure and guaranteed scientific basis. The concept of drainage is the outflow of liquid from an area that has accumulated to a place of drainage, through a conduction system.

The physiotherapist or professional who applies it does it very gently, practically like a caress. It is a massage very different from the classic, especially because of the gentle manual pressure that is performed. The massage begins from proximal to distal and always begins with the emptying of the ganglion chains.

Digitopuncture or Shiatsu

This technique is of Chinese origin. It is performed by acupressure points at certain points located along energy channels, called meridians.

Practitioners of this technique use special devices, fingers, palms, etc. Facial acupressure helps correct wrinkles. This is because this technique increases circulation and therefore improves muscle tone and connective tissue, decreasing the appearance of wrinkles.

Kobido massage

Kobido Massage means: "Ancient Way of Beauty", and is the oldest documented oriental facial massage. It is currently known as the Japanese facelift.

This massage works on 16 very superficial facial muscles through 47 different maneuvers. These maneuvers are applied on the face, neck and scalp, producing great relaxation, relieving pain and discomfort. It also provides a large amount of oxygen to the skin organ (skin).

It also produces a stimulus in the dermal collagen, thus improving skin tone and relaxation, bringing freshness.
